Wyoming Army National Guard sergeant and University of Wyoming ROTC cadet Chelsee Dellinger earned silver medals for the Wyoming National Guard Biathlon Team during regional and national competitions recently.

Dellinger, of Laramie, secured her place in the Feb. 24-March 2, Chief National Guard Bureau Championships, held in Soldier Hollow, Utah, by placing second in both the sprint and pursuit competitions at the Western Regional Championships, at Camp Ethan Allen, Jericho, Vermont.

At nationals, she placed second in the sprint and third in the pursuit, and added to her team points in the relay and patrol races, earning 28 team points and the women’s team silver medal.

Dellinger, along with her husband Chris, also a Wyoming Army Guard sergeant and ROTC cadet, are in just their second season in the sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle marksmanship. They both secured a place on the All-Guard team according to Chief Warrant Officer 4 David Roberts, WyNG biathlon coordinator.

“That’s a big deal,” Roberts exclaimed. “They are eligible to compete internationally now. It’s been over a decade since Wyoming had a renowned team.”

Chris Dellinger placed third in the sprint at regionals and earned 16 team points at the national competition.

Roberts said the range of competition at nationals was far-reaching, fielding three former Olympians all the way to beginners.
